Meet Maleek

When you imagine precious things, one often thinks of precious metals, gem stones, time and children. It’s the latter that brings us our greatest joy and reminds us of our greatest loss.

There are very few things lost that cause a void larger than the Grand Canyon; more vast than all the world’s oceans, but one such thing is the loss of your child.

Maleek "Leek" Savage was born into this world with a mighty cry. He put the world on notice of his arrival. He was the happiest of babies and lit up a room with his smile. As he grew, his smile grew more infectious and his loving nature began to show. He adored his older brother and loved to follow him around and while he might annoy his brother or get annoyed by him, he was quick to come to his brother’s aide whenever there was a need.

Leek was the kind of student who could light up a classroom with his mischievous grin and playful antics, effortlessly blending humor with a genuine love for learning. His knack for getting into light-hearted trouble—whether it was playfully teasing his classmates or orchestrating harmless pranks—only endeared him further to his teachers and friends alike. He was curious of all things and greatly affectionate. He was always willing to give a hug, the first to say "I love you" and the one to stay beside you when you were sad. He had an uncanny ability to sense other people’s emotions and needs. From a very early age he would want to take gifts to school friends or special things for a teacher. His affection was a wonder. Leek became a fierce protector of those close to him and his willingness to stand up for other children, a true testament to his kindness. However, beneath his vibrant exterior, Leek faced challenges that many may not have seen. He struggled with bullying during his school years, an experience that left a profound impact on him. It’s during this time that his love of sneakers started to form. His need to "fit in" and not "stand out" revolved around the sneakers on his feet. In the face of adversity, he found solace in sneakers, which became a symbol of his resilience and personal expression. Each pair he owned represented not just a fashion statement, but a testament to his journey—a way to reclaim his identity and celebrate his uniqueness. Leek’s love for sneakers transcended mere materialism; it was a powerful reminder of his strength and determination to rise above the negativity he encountered.

By the time he reached his sophomore year of high school, Leek was well rooted in his love of playing football and writing music. His musical talents far exceeded expectations and the quiet, kind child became full of confidence in front of a microphone within a studio. He wrote countless songs and recorded several that are now cherished by our family.

His enthusiasm for life was infectious, and he served as a reminder of the importance of nurturing our passions and pursuing our dreams. At just 22 years old, Leek left this world. Leek was a self-elected organ donor from the age of eighteen. In his final act of kindness he brought hope and gifted time to five families. Leek’s kindness and generosity of spirit made him a cherished companion to many, leaving behind a legacy of love and friendship that will endure time.

Through Sneaks From Leek we honor the memory of Maleek and we celebrate the light he brought into our lives and the lessons he imparted. Leek's spirit will forever resonate in our hearts, reminding us to embrace kindness, support one another, and stand against bullying in all its forms.

His legacy lives on through the countless friendships he forged and the lives he touched, inspiring us to carry forward his message of love, acceptance, and resilience one sneaker at a time.

Though he may no longer be with us in body, Leek's spirit will continue to shine brightly, guiding us as we navigate our own journeys one day, one moment, one step, one sneaker at a time.

We love your life, baby Savage!
